Welcome to Green Grass Broadband Ltd.

UPDATE: June 2020

I am pleased to announce that GGB now covers Tytherton Lucas.  The first two houses to connect are enjoying broadband speeds of around 50Mbps download and 20Mbps upload.

UPDATE: 27 November 2019

The second GGB network moved its base this summer to THE DUMB POST INN where we now have installed a 330 Mbps download and 50Mbps upload fibre connection.  As a result, all subscribers are now enjoying a FREE OF CHARGE package increase to 80Mbps download and 20Mbps upload speeds.

UPDATE: 15th November

GGB has installed a FOURTH network just north of Pewsey, at West Stowell.  Subscribers have gone from 1-2 Mbps to 25Mbps.   We’re planning on increasing this to 30Mbps soon.

UPDATE: 18 May 2019  HEDDINGTON

We have now installed more equipment to cover new areas in Heddington.  This is not limited to but includes Roundway Close, Heddington Heights, Hillside Close and other properties on the main road near the Village Hall.  The first 45Mbps download / 10Mbps upload broadband supply was installed in Roundway Close yesterday.

UPDATE: March 2019

Installation work has finished in Stockley, just south of Calne.  Subscribers have moved from up to 2Mbps on their landline to a 45Mbps download and 10Mbps upload with GGB.

Our third network is up and running to the South of Calne.  We have equipment covering Stockley and Heddington.  The standard package is 45Mbps down/10 Mbps upload.

Our second network is up and running to the Northwest of Calne.  We have equipment covering Stanley, Ratford, Bencroft Hill and houses towards Chippenham.  Initially everyone was provided with a 40Mbps down/ 10 Mbps upload.  Since December 2018 this has been increased to 45d/10u.  There is no extra charge for this and GGB is holding the monthly costs for 2019.

Green Grass Broadband provides superfast, ‘Fixed Wireless Internet‘ to rural areas currently only served by landlines.

Although we use the very latest equipment across the whole network, the concept and the industry are not new.  It is one of those ‘I never knew this existed’ industries!  The good news is that it works and it can be blisteringly fast. Using the right equipment in the right place, it is as fast as fibre, capable of delivering GIGABIT speeds.

All of this is rather more than we need at home but it is reassuring to know that the equipment can perform.

A little bit about GGB

The owner is local resident, Ayhan Dawood.

Since then we have invested heavily in upgrading the main ‘backhaul’ equipment across the whole network.  We’ve been installing more backhaul equipment to cover more areas and provide superfast broadband to people in really remote areas.  Not everyone lives in the middle of their village!

The starting point (the source of the superfast broadband) is in Royal Wootton Bassett.  From there, we transmit the broadband to local ‘hubs’.  Hubs are aerials stategically located in the community to receive the broadband and then to broadcast it to houses.  To increase coverage we ‘daisychain’ additional hubs together to reach more properties.  In January 2017 we had 4 hubs.  Today we have 14.  As a result, the number of subscribers has grown tremendously.  Most of the growth has been word of mouth which is very re-assuring.

This strategic growth has increased the coverage dramatically enabling us to connect people to fast, reliable broadband.

One of the many benefits of Fixed Wireless Broadband is that there is no need to dig up anything to lay cables.  Where we can, we install the aerial on the existing TV aerial pole to minimise disruption.

We are working on a new coverage map, which will be along soon.  In the meantime, click here.  We’ve listed the villages we cover to give you a broad idea.

Please do give us a ring for a chat.  We are very happy to answer any questions you may have.
